I just didn't feel like she had the same level of devotion to him as he to her. I all at once thought that this story showed such devotion in Maris for a daughter that she couldn't claim, yet I was saddened by what I at times perceived as her less than enthusiastic love for Dominic. Not wanting to lose her daughter as well she begins thinking of a plan that will evenually be what precipitates the beginning of the series proper. From Maris's internal dialogue is she loves the children she bore and was sad to lose her son. What we learn from this story is that Maris is already planning to get Chrysabelle out of life as a Comarre. We know that Maris chooses Libertas and we already know the state it leaves her in. A way that will allow them an attempt to gain freedom. Knowing that in the situation they are currently in neither of them can benefit, so they think of a way to turn the table. While there they find out that they are developing feelings for one another. In order to attempt to achieve this, Dominic has to take Maris back to his home. It takes place over a period of a month where Dominic is commissioned (through blackmail) by a vampire of another house to change Maris' (his comarre) blood to enable him to go out in the daylight after he drinks from her.
Maybe the story was too short and could have been helped with more details and more time in the story world itself. I just felt that their relationship / history as we learn it in Blood Rights was more special than the story we get here. It was a really quick read and I kind of have mixed feelings about it. The book doesn't really give us any information we didn't already know in the long run, it just expanded on the story, or what we thoght was the story.
Forbidden Blood tells the story of Maris and Dominic, how they met and fell in love.
This is a House of Comarre series short story that takes places before Chrysabelle and Mal's story.
